Small White today in glorious sunshine in North Devon.
My first emergent butterfly of the year. Most years it is Speckled Wood??
Awful phone photo I am afraid.

Butterfly Tour Operators

Peter As you know, I have been on this site almost from day one. I am not as active as I once was, but I still look at this forum almost every day. I am really disappointed that you took down my post in reply to Ian Pratt's request for information on butterfly tour operators. Of course you will have...

Re: European Butterflies - A personal diary

Paul I posted on here a while back about Jon Dunn's article in British Wildlife magazine. https://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=11692 Previously his excellent book Orchid Summer had reignited my old love for wild Orchids. After a rather good self-guided Orchid trip to Crete e...

Butterfly Vagrancy in Britain

I have subscribed for many years to
https://www.britishwildlife.com/
In the latest issue, Vol 14, No. 5, there is a fabulous article on Butterfly Vagrancy in Britain
It is written by Jon Dunn - author and wildlife tour guide, and is really well worth a read.
Thanks

Re: September 2022

Hi Don't post a lot these days, but have been on the site since, virtually, day one. However - this weekend we had a fabulous walk around the Roseland Peninsular in Cornwall. Excellent showing of Clouded Yellow with a dozen or more in view at one time between St Anthony Head (wasn't he the librarian...

Saving the Blue

As it looks pretty iffy weatherwise on Monday, at least for butterfly chasing, I would like to draw your attention to, what I hope will be a great program on BBC Radio 4 Extra. 10:00, and repeated at 15:00, it is the story of Jeremy Thomas and his attempt to save the Large Blue from extinction at &q...

Re: Canon camera and lens servicing options

Hi These guys did an excellent job cleaning and servicing my bodies (2x7D MkIIs) and lenses (7 in total) - and, this is the crucial bit, - calibrating the autofocus for each lens with each body. Best money I have ever spent on camera gear. If you are searching for sharpness - auto-focus calibration ...

Kenfig Petition

Kenfig Dunes in South Wales is under threat.
It is excellent for butterflies, and is one of the top ten orchid sites in the country.

Re: Motor home travel.

Hi I have had MotorHomes/Campervans since the late 1990s Would NOT be without ne. Our latest iteration is in the attached photo. Were it not for the vans I doubt I would have seen every British species in 2012? (can't quite remember the year) In the UK we very rarely use campsites, relying on two ex...

Re: Tick-borne encephalitis in UK

Hi Avoid using DEET anywhere that it can touch camera plastics. I had some on my face, and where my nose touched the viewing screen, it turned it horribly opaque. The bottle base had some on it, and melted a nasty circle on the plastic shelf in the bathroom of my campervan. My record for ticks is 13...
