Gatekeeper

New member hopinng to advance my knowledge of these delightful creatures. Came across this butterfly which I'm sure is a Gatekeeper but puzzled by its hind wings could this be another aberration? Spotted a few miles south of Bath a few days ago.

Hi Johnny and welcome to the site. It is indeed a female Gatekeeper. It looks like a scale defect to the hind wings, possibly caused by the unusually high temperatures we've had.
