Carcharodus

Post by David M »

Seen at 1,000m in the Mercantour, this specimen is unlike any Tufted Marbled Skipper I've ever seen before. With flocciferus, I'm used to quite a dark ground colour on the forewings (almost like a damp, rusty colour) whereas this one is much paler with a hint of salmon pink.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Roger. It looks extremely colourful for alcaea; normally the ones I see are very drab.

Things improving rapidly here with more hot weather to come. Numbers are well down on last year but the range has been encouraging these last few days.
