Week 20 –So here we are the final week and so close to the end, and a little bit early , only two more posts until the big one…

As like last year details of locations, dates, times and circumstances would be welcome as would any accompanying stories and anecdotes or other observations of behaviour and interesting other points.

The first of my 2017 lifers, I finally managed to get to Chiddingfold Wood with the help of Susie to find them during their first brood

and I managed to find a few courting couples and see the bizarre ritual which I'd hoped to watch

Two weeks later in Ireland whilst chasing the Cryptics I found myself in the company of some Irish sinapis in the foothills of the spectacular Burren landscape

None seen in the UK in 2017, but this species crops up in decent numbers both in the Pyrenees in late May and the French Alps in July. Here's an image of a courting couple:

I went down to Chiddingfold on 5th May, and caught up with the first brood. I think it was early in their emergence as I didn't see many, and it was also late in the day. I found some courting pairs, indulging in their fascinating ritual...

...and a number of fresh singletons.

I also noticed that when roosting, they tended to gather in twos and threes.

My Wood White is from the south of France on 08 May.
It is not necessarily my favourite, it is the only one I have, having inadvertently deleted all this year's photos.
