Small Tortoiseshell November sighting
This beautiful butterfly appeared on my bedroom wall today. No windows were open. I lost my Mum very recently and took comfort that as we both adhore butterflies this was a sign that she is at peace

Sorry to hear about your mum Huntertrio.
The Tortoiseshell looks in near mint condition, it must have snuck in a month or two ago through an open window looking for somewhere to spend the winter and I would hazard a guess the heating in your house has recently been turned on (or up). Best thing to do is pop it somewhere cool and dry so it can go back into hibernation. A garden shed is ideal

Some addictions are good for the soul!
Re: Small Tortoiseshell November sighting
My commiserations, Huntertrio.
Butterflies have been associated with the soul for generations. The chrysalis phase seems lifeless then all of a sudden this beautiful, winged creature emerges with flight and freedom as its main characteristics.
There is definitely something 'other-worldly' about an adult butterfly.
