Wood White - Favourite Photo of 2015
Week 20
The final week and so the final opportunity to post your favourite photos looking back on the 2015 season.
Please could I ask that everyone waits until a topic has been opened by me for a particular species before posting photos? Of course our overseas members are very welcome to fill in the obvious gaps relating to rare UK migrants. As like last year details of locations, dates, times and circumstances would be welcome as would any accompanying stories and anecdotes or other observations of behaviour and interesting other points.
Have a goodun

My visit to Chiddingfold on 2nd August produced quite a few second brood individuals. I liked these two shots in particular.

9th July, in the Rhône Valley:

This wasn't a freeze-frame shot - the butterfly was sitting with its wings open. It didn't appear to be injured but it was rather docile and amenable. These are both shots of the same individual, to put the open-wing picture in context:

Another UK species that I tend only to see in France these days.
Plenty were about during my Alps trip in midsummer, and a fair few were seen in mid-April, when I visited the Var region, including this one:

Wood White
This was taken at Botany Bay in early August. After seeing my first Wood White three years ago I missed out for the next couple of years as I couldn’t seem to find the time to make it back. This year however I finally had accrued enough Brownie points so that I could make a return trip and so despite the weather not being brilliant (was ever in 2015?) I set forth.
Once on site it all seemed familiar and as I wandered the pathways I started scanning the verges and ditches looking for the weakly fluttering whites. It wasn’t until I was almost at the ‘triangle’ that I saw my first Wood White. It was this individual and over the next 20 minutes that I was with it I took all manner of photos of which this was my favourite from the day. The way it is backlit adds to the ethereal persona that this species exudes. Have a goodun
