My parents went to Mindsmere today and sent me the 'what's about' list - which mentions purple emperor (noting that this is rare). What's going on there? Are there purple emperors in Suffolk again?

Re: Purple emperors in Suffolk
Hi Guy,
there is an unsubstantiated report of them being seen in Bradfield Woods, Suffolk this year however they may have been introduced here?
There is also a blog about the history of the introduction of emperors to Theberton wood in Suffolk, which is not far from Minsmere where sightings have indeed been made, at http://apaturairis.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=Suffolk which may be of interest?
Kind Regards
Mark

The wonder of the world, the beauty and the power, the shapes of things, their colours lights and shades, these I saw. Look ye also while life lasts.

Re: Purple emperors in Suffolk
Wow - thank you both. That's really interesting - and shows how long I've been out of the county ... The information on silver-washed fritillaries is fascinating too. I'm looking forward to being in Suffolk at the right time of year to enjoy these butterflies.
