website update

Post by petesmith »

After two seasons of lean pickings on the European Butterfly front, I have recently added a small number of images to my website.
There is a new page for Cyprus, with a small number of species from my late summer trip, plus a handful of new photographs from Corfu back in May this year (scroll down to the bottom of the Greece page).

If it is of interest, please feel free to take a look.

Thanks Andy - glad you enjoyed the Spain page. I too am hoping to be back out in Spain late April next year, all being well. Can't wait!

Nice additions, Pete, although I couldn't help gravitating back in time to those Kreuper's Small Whites you saw in Corfu!

Thanks David - those Krueper's were incredible - a wonderful species! That was definitely the most exciting butterflying experience of the year, and for several years, for me, although the Grass Jewel in Cyprus was also a great moment. Fingers crossed for 2022...

Happy Christmas and a fruitful New Year to everyone on UKB!

I have recently added a few of this year's new photographs to my website.

There are a small number of additional images on the France and Spain pages, plus a somewhat larger additional clutch on my Costa Rica page, complete with brief notes and commentary as usual.

Feel free to have a browse as an antidote to the deep mid-winter weather. At least we have made it to the shortest day!

Cheers

Hi All,

Happy New Year!
After a dreary few weeks the sun has finally reappeared in Lincolnshire today, but Spring feels a long way off...

The poor December weather gave me the opportunity to update my website with some new images from 2023, including a new page for Cuba and a small number of additions to the Spain, France and Greece pages. All pics with brief commentary, as usual.

Some of you will have already seen most of these in the overseas forum posts, but if anyone has missed them, or fancies a browse during the winter weeks, feel free to check them out. Details of the new stuff at https://www.butterflydreams.co.uk/latest-news

Best wishes to everyone for a butterfly-packed 2024!

Hi Pete
what a great idea Pete, sitting here in deep frozen Denmark, what's more glorious than revisiting some of your travels and looking forward to starting trips in April :D

Indeed John! Reminiscing over past glories and planning ahead for future trips is the best way to get through the winter! Hope you have a great 2024 planned. :D

Thanks for the tip-off (and the link), Pete.

Always nice to marvel at images of butterflies, especially when it's just 3c outside! :D

It's that time of year again folks - it is cold outside, Santa is on his warm-up rounds, and there are precious few butterflies to be found!

I have therefore been taking the downtime opportunity, in between searching for Brown Hairstreak eggs in my local woodlands, to update my website once again.

The following new additions are now live:

GOA: New page created
34 new butterfly photographs
4 habitat photographs

GERMANY: New page created
2 new butterfly photographs
1 habitat photograph

FRANCE: New photos of -

Water Ringlet
Ottoman Brassy Ringlet
Gavarnie Ringlet
Larche Ringlet
Furry Blue
Ripart's Anomalous Blue

GREECE: New photos of -

Dalmatian Ringlet
Gruner's Orange-tip
Bavius Blue
Yellow-banded Skipper
Chequered Blue
Eastern Wood White
Inky Skipper
Cretan Grayling
Cretan Argus
White-banded Grayling
Cretan Small Heath
Grass Jewel

If you fancy a browse, it might add a little warmth to the proceedings...https://www.butterflydreams.co.uk/ - enjoy! Merry Xmas to all who celebrate :D :D

Trying not to look at it in one evening. I need to try to prolong it at least through December. Lovely photos Pete.

Had a jolly good browse the other day, Pete. Very fine effort and makes me look forward even more to another busy year in Europe in 2025.

Can't come soon enough!

Cheers David - despite the poor summer in most of Western Europe I reckon we both did pretty well in 2024, and if 2025 is half as good it will be something to look forward to! Fingers crossed...

Indeed, Pete. In spite of it being the most challenging year I've ever known for butterflies, I still managed to rack up over 250 European species. Had it been a good year, that figure would have been approaching 300.

As you say, fingers crossed that we finally get a better set of conditions in 2025.
