Moth trapping
Moth trapping
A lovely surpise to see so many moths in my moth trap this morning including privet and small elephant hawkmoths, peppered moth, buff tip, angle shades and several others yet to be identified.
Re: Moth trapping
Fabulous, Ian. That Privet Hawk moth is like a jet fighter.

Re: Moth trapping
Even better this morning with an elephant hawkmoth, two privet hawkmoths and an eyed hawkmoth.
Re: Moth trapping
We don't get Eyed Hawk-moth here - poplars and willows are absent, though there's a fair amount of sallow. Plenty of Elephant Hawks though!

Thanks for posting photos.
Re: Moth trapping
I realise this is a butterfly forum, but I must say I'm very much enjoying this thread.
Re: Moth trapping
Thank you. I wasn't quite sure whether this was the right place to show these sightings but as I have just started moth trapping it seemed appropriate. There is a ukmoths website, but the photos may be much better there!
