We have a bunch of moths that go absolutely manic from late afternoon for a good few hours.
They look small and quite orangey in flight and they love whizzing round our beech tree but then going all over the place. I'd guess there's about 10 of them, but it's hard to say because they're like Billy Whizz on a surplus of E numbers.
My mrs managed to safely net one this evening using a pond dipping net.
She also kindly got a torch out for me to get a better snap (top image). These were taken about 8:30pm and they'd been at it from at least 5pm.
When it flew off there were two obvious orangey spots underneath.
So I think this is a Lesser broad bordered yellow underwing ?
Is this manic group whizzing over a good few hours a known thing with them ? They must be knackered by the end of it.
