Unusual choice of perch Costa Rica 2011
Unusual choice of perch Costa Rica 2011
Bugboy's photos reminded me of a holiday I had in Costa Rica in 2011. On our tour we stopped on a bridge to see some crocodiles below. We we told that they were wild but were fed chickens by the local people as then the crocodiles stayed and the tourists stopped giving the locals an opportunity to sell things.

It would seem everything is fed chickens in Costa Rica, The Macaws at the breeding center would get chicken legs to chew on once a week. For calcium apparently. It did look odd though.
Some addictions are good for the soul!

Hi Katrina,
It must still be worth going in for that close-up - great background!

I sincerely hope they were not LIVE chickens?Katrina wrote:On our tour we stopped on a bridge to see some crocodiles below. I can't really remember the food there but I suspect they fed me chicken too!
Thank Neil, I was grateful for the zoom on the camera.
As regards to live or dead chickens I don't know as I didn't see the actual feeding.
Looking at the times on the photos the butterfly stayed perched there for over 3 minutes.

Hi Katrina
Nice pics
I am sure I have read that butterflies drink or take nutrients from the eyes of many animals in hotter climates
Maybe somebody more knowledgable could confirm that
Nice pics

I just googled 'Julia feeding on crocodile tears' in search of an amusing picture, and found this instead:

Thanks Jack and Guy - drinking tears would explain it.
