I'm of to Cuba in three weeks time and I've had a look on the net for the butterflies that I'm likely to encounter
But its not been that helpful
I would be interested if anybody has been there and what I'm likely to see
I will be on the coast in the southeast of the island
I have read about some of the nature reserve but that might mean I have to talk the better half into going with me
Many thanks nick

Re: CUBA
Strangely, this is not an easy part of the world to find out about the butterflies! You can probably pick up a copy of Norman Riley's Butterflies of the West Indies through Abebooks, but this was written in 1975, so much has probably changed since. The Bible is David Spencer Smith's Butterflies of the West Indies and South Florida (written in 1994), but you will need very deep pockets to get a copy of that. It gives some good information about the habitat where each butterfly is found.
Focus on Nature's web site lists all of the butterflies found in the Caribbean and with patience you can build up a list of what has been recorded on each island.
You shouldn't be short of butterflies there. I think there are almost 200 species recorded from Cuba.

Re: CUBA
Thanks for your reply
I'm obviously looking forward to the holiday and it would be silly of me not to have a good look round for butterflies
I will be posting up the photos of the ones that I get
Thanks again
