Hi folks,
I'm lucky enough to have the mediteranean scrub (garrigue) just behind my office in Vitrolles (Bouches du Rhone), and today's lunch-break stroll was well worth it. There were 2 Two-tailed Pashas hilltopping with a Swallowtail and a Scarce Swallowtail. If I see a Two-tailed Pasha, it is at the best once a year, and to get a photo is even luckier. Sorry about the quality of these, but they were taken at a distance of approx 8 meters on full zoom with my Panasonic FZ 150 bridge. I must now monitor to see if this is a regular spot for them. As I turned to head back, two Long-tailed Blues were sparring in front of me. All in all it makes you want to get up in the morning and go to work just so you can have a lunch-break.
Have a good one.
Chris

What a fantastic butterfly and great pictures - I had common blue in my lunch hour though
I have just spent a couple of weeks in Turkey and TTP was on my wanted list I saw one only fleetingly - enough to whet my appetite for more - as are your pictures.
Kind Regards
Mark.

The wonder of the world, the beauty and the power, the shapes of things, their colours lights and shades, these I saw. Look ye also while life lasts.

Chris,
Great shots, especially with the wings open. I saw my first Pashas in South of France a couple of years ago. Only managed closed wing photos though.
Argueably the most beautiful species I have ever seen.
PS. If you require an admin assistant for your office, give me a call.
Regards
Kev

And if you need a window cleaner I'm your man!
Saw my first ever 2 tailed pashas in Kefalonia this year. One butterfly I've been dying to see for several years. Never seen them in Provence (I've passed Vitrolles many times from the airport!) and been to several other places at just before or just after the flight period. Kefoalonia fortunately has stacks of them and their aerial battles are mighty impressive! Alas I only found the best spot just at the end of the holiday so I'll be back soon for sure.
