Re: Brighton and surroundings good sites?
Joe, some sites I enjoy round the Brighton area:
For White-letter Hairstreaks at Hollingbury Park see Sunday 10 July 2011 at:

my blog: http://colinknight.blogspot.com/2011/07 ... gbury.html
Try Wolstonbury Hill for Small Blue, Small Brown and an Adonis Blue:

http://colinknight.blogspot.com/2010/05 ... ghton.html
Mill Hill, Shoreham is not far away is an excellent site for many species. Also in early April last year the adders were mating and could be easily seen.
Keep an eye on the Sussex BC Events page where 2012 guided walks will be published soon:

Hi Joe ,
Welcome to the site
Depending on how mobile you are , your first site visits for the spring butterflies , Grizzled and Dingy Skippers , for example , should be Castle Hill NR at Woodingdean or a bit farther away Mill Hill at Shoreham . Beacon Hill at Rottingdean is always worth a visit a bit later in the year especially for Marbled Whites . Wild Park at Moulescombe is also a good site within Brighton itself .
