Denbies Hillside - Saturday 6 August
Denbies Hillside - Saturday 6 August
In a moment of madness on another forum I said I would do a walk around Denbies Hillside. I would like to invite the UK Butterfly members to join me too for a stroll around one of my favourite places.
Target species are mainly the blues: chalkhill, adonis, common, brown argus.
Meet in the car park at 10am. The car park is National Trust and you will have to pay unless you are a member.
Details of where it is in the following linkage.

Edit: Due to family commitments I have had to move the date to Saturday 6th August.

Re: Denbies Hillside - Sunday 7 August
Whack it on the Calendar, Susie. That way it won't become 'lost' as new threads and topics push it off the page.

What an utterly splendid idea!

Re: Denbies Hillside - Saturday 6 August
Bump!
Unfortunately this clashes with butterflies and buddleia this year but I am hoping that a few UKbers will be able to join me.

I look forward to meeting you. You will be very welcome.
And welcome to one of the nicest forums on the web, if you need to know anything about butterflies this is the place to ask.

If you want to post to WAB that this is still going on but for UK Butterflies and direct people here you are welcome, Nige.

Re: Denbies Hillside - Saturday 6 August
Actually it is probably best not to post anything on there, I don't want to cause you difficulty.
It is still on if light rain is forecast although it is up to attendees if they want to come along or not in those conditions. At the moment it's set fair.

Thanks. Is she coming along, Nige?
Re: Denbies Hillside - Saturday 6 August
She doesn't know as her daughter has come down with Croup. I've also just mentioned to Ukwildlifeo, haven't heard anything yet.

Re: Denbies Hillside - Saturday 6 August
Hi all,
I managed to make it home in one piece, no breakdowns there or back - it's quite remarkable!
A huge thanks Susie for organising this! It was great to meet some of you (hopefully not the only time) so thanks for the company and thanks all for the info you shared. It was great to see so many butterflies among other things, several new ones for me. I'll be posting some photos soon (if they've come out OK)

On behalf of myself,Bill and the wives we would like to thank Susie for all her help and advice during a very enjoyable time spent at Denbies.Even though we had been there several times before we saw an area unknown to us.Furthermore we achieved our objective in finding the silver spotted little fellow, that had eluded us the previous year at Boxhill.Thank you Susie.

Thank you, Nige, it was great to meet you today and I hope we get to meet again at another event. I'm glad you made it home safely. Cool car, btw
It was lovely to see you, Philip, again and also to meet Butterfly Bill and your good ladies. It is pleasing you found your target species even if the hairstreaks didn't show this morning.
A big thank you from me to everyone who attended today, (Nige, PJ Underwood and assoociates, Mike, Paul, ChrisC, Millerd, Philzoid and gorgeous daughters) friends old and new, who made it such a great day.
I'll post more and photos later.

Hi all, also got home in one piece and in time to see more Common Blues just up the road than we saw all day...
Big thanks to Susie for organising this, and taking us to a bit of the hill I knew nothing of. A great day out and apart from the butterflies, those Wasp Spiders were something else! Good to meet you all - more faces to names - and hope to see you out and about in the future. Photos to follow eventually!
