Bound to be a new species!
My son Andrew took this photo and noticed some extra spotting... anyone recognize it as a known occurrence, - close up to point to bit we mean.. feedback appreciated sometime.

Re: Bound to be a new species!
Nothing would surprise me with Erebia. The levels of variation seem to be enormous.
Re: Bound to be a new species!
Could possibly be a touch of homeosis Mr. K. although it's not ordinarily so symetrical...

Dave.... totally agreed.. what a variable lot... I saw manto this time round for the first ever, and there weren't two alike!!!
Piers!
I am truly delighted to receive your comment.
Now all you need to do is give me a clue what homeosis is.
I hate being ignorant.
The new species bit is obviously ridiculous, but seriously I have never seen an erebia with any semblence of spotting just there. It may be the eye of the hopeful, but it does look a bit spotty!
Just thought it was an interesting observation and wondered if it was common.
Did you see the pallens hyperantus I saw in the Alps? - cracking butterfly
