2009 Photography Workshop
Hi folks - thanks to Gary (Gruditch) ... I can now confirm this event. Although some details are yet to be fleshed out, we have most of the important bits sorted.
First off - I can confirm that the event will be held on Saturday 25th April at West Tytherley village hall in Hampshire (http://www.westtytherley.com/villagehall.htm). This is a short drive away from Bentley Wood - one of the most well-known butterfly sites in the country. The species to be seen in April are somewhat-limited but you will get plenty of opportunity to take shots of something! Orange-tips, Brimstones and bluebells are all around the wood at this time.
This will be an all-day event (see below). The cost is TBD but will be somewhere between £5 and £10 per person. Not only do we want to cover costs, but also make a donation to Butterfly Conservation. This event will be run in conjunction with the Hampshire Branch of BC.
The provisional agenda is as follows:
0930 – 1000 Arrive, coffee/tea, mingling
1000 - 1010 Introduction
1010 - 1040 Presentation 1 - Basic concepts
1040 - 1110 Presentation 2 - Equipment
1110 - 1130 Coffee/tea
1130 - 1200 Presentation 3 - Technique
1200 - 1220 Presentation 4a – Digital photography
1220 - 1240 Introduction to Bentley Wood
1240 - 1440 Practical / Lunch (includes a trip to Bentley Wood)
1440 - 1530 Guest speaker
1530 – 1545 Presentation 4b – Digital photography
1545 - 1600 Coffee/tea
1600 - 1630 Presentation 5 Creating competition-winning photos
1630 - 1700 Show and tell (critique session)
1700 - 1715 Wrap up
Those that have currently confirmed are those below. If others could please *confirm* I'd appreciate it. We'd rather not have responses along the lines of "I'd like to reserve a place but will let you know nearer the time" or "I'll definitely be there - so long as I can get a lift" please - since places are strictly limited and we were over-subscribed last year. And there is a limit on places.

Please reply to this thread to reserve a place (or email me at pete@ukbutterflies.co.uk). Some places are being "held back" for Hampshire members since some are not "on the web" and will be contacted via the Hampshire newsletter.
Any questions - just ask!
Cheers,

Re: 2009 Photography Workshop
Would it be possible to be put up there as a maybe for a bit. I know that there are limited places and if this is not possible then please don't worry!
I ask because of the 'state' of things, it would take groveling the parents and an important day this month that would give me the slightest chance in going.
Having said that I would really like to come, but it may take a while to get the difinitive outcome.
Thanks
Em

Pete,
My brother-in-law, Clive Randalls whose a member of Butterfly Conservation, Dorset Branch, and just beginning to get into butterfly photography would like to join the event. Are there still places remaining?

Re: 2009 Photography Workshop
How will the critique session be done? Will we need to provide hard copy prints or jpegs on cd? If the latter, what size will be preferred?
Thanks..
Thanks..

Hi Mike - you can either send me, or bring, JPEGs. We can load them onto a laptop for display.eccles wrote:How will the critique session be done? Will we need to provide hard copy prints or jpegs on cd? If the latter, what size will be preferred?

An alternative is to bring hard copy - although this didn't work so well last year since not all could see the photos. If you do bring hard copy, the larger the better

Re: 2009 Photography Workshop
Pete, does this mean that you would prefer us to bring photos on a flash drive or e-mail them to you in advance rather than bring hard copies? I do agree that it was difficult for everyone to see the photos last year; it would be much easier for everyone to view digital versions.Pete Eeles wrote:

Re: 2009 Photography Workshop
I am going to bring along some potted wildflowers and other plants which are good for butterflies to the meeting.
If anyone wants to buy any then all money raised will be going to Butterfly Conservation. If anyone else wants to bring some plants along too to donate then that would be wonderful (and if the rest of you can bring your wallets to buy them then that would be even better!
).
