It Sounded Like a Yellowhammer ?

this bird was at Totternhoe a few days ago. its song was similar to a Yellowhammer, but sufficiently different to make me wonder....

That's an excellent excuse - hope you saw some! Corn Buntings often occur on high quality chalk downland where you might find the likes of Marsh Fritillary and Adonis Blue at this time of year. They have declined dramatically in recent years, so it's always good to see and/or hear them.

Yes, Corn Bunting. I see them (and hear their scratchy song) often in my spring visits to the Chilton Duke domains.
