Greenwings Tour Availability

Post by Pete Eeles »

I know that quite a few UKB visitors/members have attended various Greenwings tours and that reports of many of these are posted here. You can also find reports on the Greenwings website itself, against each tour (https://greenwings.co/our-holidays/butterfly-holidays/).

I've been informed that the following tours still have places, should anyone be interested.

The Vercors with Richard Lewington - 30th June to 7th July 2023
https://greenwings.co/our-holidays/butt ... e-vercors/
I don't think Richard requires any introduction!

Butterflies of the Picos de Europa - 3rd July to 10th July 2023
https://greenwings.co/our-holidays/butt ... de-europa/
I led this tour last year and would highly recommend it! Pau Lucio, the lead guide, is superb!

Cheers,

- Pete

Pete’s post prompted me to re-read the reports of the early Mercantour/Alps trips 2014-16, quite nostalgic to recall the very pleasant and like-minded guests and the way they melded into a very convivial group almost immediately.

One situation I found quite amusing was when the group were delayed at Nice airport (2015? hire car hold-up?) while I was already at the first location about one hour north of Nice. They arrived at the location several hours later than planned and must have been tired having been travelling for most of the day. I mentioned that, while I expected the guests to wish to get to their hotel rooms and rest, I had just seen a Southern Comma about 200m along the GR5 track. I don’t think I’ve ever seen twelve suitcases dropped so fast and the Southern Comma was still there and very obliging for photographers. I then spotted a Southern Small White and the Southern Comma was consigned to history, having had his fifteen minutes of fame.

It did seem to me, and I might be biased, that the butterflies posed better for the group than when I travel alone, given that it was for the group to take photos, not myself. One instance was the immaculate female Mountain Alcon Blue which sat placidly with open wings so that everyone could get a photo.

Thanks for the post about tours Pete.

I just wanted to add that someone has had to cancel their place on our north Greece holiday (6-13 June) due to a sudden health issue.

This tour normally fills, so it is a good chance for somebody interested to join, albeit at short notice!

That said, I'm sure we can offer some kind of discount.

It is led by Jon Dunn and David Moore.

You can read the trip report from last year here http://greenwings.co/wp-content/uploads ... e-2022.pdf

And here is a link to the tour page itself..https://greenwings.co/our-holidays/butt ... -greece-3/

Thanks!
Matt
