Kazakh butterfly ID

Can someone help with ID on this butterfly seen near Almaty in Kazakhstan

It is indeed. There's no similar species. I'd be interested to see other things you found in Kazakhstan too.

Hi Guy

Although I visited Kazakhstan on many occasions during my career, i never had much leisure time. Wish I had made some time looking back to go chase some butterflies.

The photo was sent to me by a friend who has an allotment just outside Almaty.

Maybe I will get back on holiday at some point.

Yes, certainly a Cardinal. Saw this on several trips there for Naturetrek.
