Blue spotted White Moth from Jersey ID help

Post by Devon Dave »

Now in the depths of Mid-Winter Iam going through my photos from 2022 of which Iam not sure of the species. This was an extremely fine Moth specimen which I photographed on the boot of the Hotels courtesy Bently car in July.
It was a lovely ermine White moth with three royal blue spots, and also blue legs and about 4cm long at a rough guess. Certainly, a very distinctive and handsome specimen. Any ID ideas would be welcome so that I can name it and add it to my Moth photograph Album collection.
A very Happy New Year to all readers.

Hello Dave ,
And a happy New Year to you also ! .....................Your moth looks like one of the "Footman " moths and very similar in appearance to the Four Spotted Footman .....Lithosia Quadra. Although i,ve never seen one in Blue ,normally Black ! could it be the light angle ?

Hi Alan,
many thanks for the NY greeting and identification help, it's funny it's a Footman as it was spotted initially by the Hotel Doorman !
I will do some research on the species you have suggested,
Thank you very much.

Agree looks like a female (males lack the spots) Four-spotted Footman.
