Katrina
Re: Katrina
You've seen some interesting stuff on that trip, Katrina. Thanks for sharing.
Herstmonceaux
Thank you David
Trevor's recent post of STs at Herstomonceaux propelled it from my short list to top of my list to go today.
I left in grey skies but arrived in sunshine.
As usual the Buddleias were attracting the butterflies.
I saw on them Commas, Red Admirals, Peacocks, one Painted Lady, one Holly Blue, one Silver-washed Fritillary , one Holly Blue , one Wall some Large Whites, and Gatekeepers.
Also in the Garden were one Small Copper, some Common Blues , Meadow Browns and a Speckled Wood. There was an everlasting pea - I didnt see any LTBs but having seen Neils post think I should have been looking for eggs!
I went to the Meadow where I saw 4 Walls and more Gatekeeper and Common Blues and it was a pleasure to bump in Mike Mullis there.
On the way back to the garden one of my trainers grew wings.

Re: Katrina
A very wise decision today Katrina, bearing in mind Herstmonceux is now approaching it's best.
Good to read you found some more Walls, I've only found one there so far this year.
I found a cracking site for Walls today, only 9 miles from home, never been there before
.
Trevor.

She's got to go some to beat that!. Still one of my all time favourite images.

Re: Katrina
Love that penultimate image of the Tortoiseshell surrounded by bowles mauve in particular, Katrina. It's a feast of colour at this time of year, for sure.

Glasgow
I was up in the outskirts of Glasgow last week.
I did't spend much time butterflying but did go to Greenbank Gardens and saw Commas, Red Admirals, Peacocks and a Small Tortoiseshell.
Also went round the walled garden at Culzean Castle where there were numerous whites, some Peacocks and Red Admirals.,

Bonus photos
I also went to Langlands Moss in East Kilbride.
Hot day mainly saw some whites and a Peacock. A brown butterfly or moth flew about 2 metres above my head very fast. Didn't get round all the paths and areas

Re: Katrina
Lovely shot of a very relaxed Fox, it looks particularly well fed.
Hopefully all the rain we've had will help the plants and in turn the butterflies.
Trevor.

Re: Katrina
If those fox shots are taken thru glass with phone it might be time I binned my camera! Lovely!
Re: Katrina
I thought it looked a bit thin Trevor but maybe it was less fluffy on account of the heat.
Thanks Pauline - not that sharp but still good to see them

Re: Katrina
Nice foxes, Katrina.
The habitat at Langlands Moss looks perfect for Large Heath. Not sure if they're recorded there.

Re: Katrina
Yes they are listed as being there. Didn’t see any myself but not sure how long their season is so may have been too late, not sure best spot for them etc. it was very hot so they could have gone to ground. Good to find the place anyway.
Holly blew me away!
This morning I noticed a Holly Blue on the Hemp Agrimony in my patio. Pretty rare to get butterflies there but just goes to show if you plant the right plant you are in with a chance wherever you live.
At lunchtime I went round Anchor Bottom with Jonathan. The butterflies were very active. No Adonis females out yet that I noticed. Common blues about . Lots of Small Heaths around

And a nice, fresh one too by the looks of things, Katrina.

Must admit, I haven't seen a summer brood Holly Blue in the UK this year so yours gives me at least a little vicarious joy.
