Most southerly site of Large Heath
Is Whixhall Moss in Shropshire the most southerly site in Britain where the Large Heath can be found? Is there anywhere nearer to me in Gloucestershire? Thanks.

Hi Steve, I think Whixall Moss is both the most southerly site and the closest to you. If you want photos I would suggest picking a day with a good amount of cloud predicted or you'll likely just be a spectator to their non stop flying.

Cors Caron is the most southerly site in the UK, but Tregaron is far more difficult to get to from Gloucestershire than Whixall Moss so the latter is probably the best option, especially given that form davus flies there.

Thanks both. I've been to Whixhall Moss a couple of times in the past but never managed to get "the perfect photo".

Hi Stevie, you might also find the White-faced darter one of the UKs rare Dragonflies, from the car park turn left walk straight ahead, pass the latch gate, continue ,at the junction turn right and walk to the track that turns left, they can be found at a small pond close by.
I also found this to be a good spot for the Large Heath. https://jamesgibbs6929.zenfolio.com
