Katrina
Re: Katrina
Sounds and looks like a marvelous place to visit. It's been on my list of places to go for quite a while

Some addictions are good for the soul!
Re: Katrina
Yes, bit of a trek but lots of white sandy quiet beaches.
Not so many butterflies it was sunny but windy.
You can also take a boat out to see the seals and puffins.

Re: Katrina
It's a fascinating area of the British Isles, Katrina and I'm glad you got out there and saw it for yourself (as well as giving us a taste).
Not at all surprised by the glossy ibis. There was one up in Shetland the other day!!!

Re: Katrina
Really interesting to see the subspecies of Specklie Katrina - it definitely has a more orangey tone more like the continental form
Did you go by helicopter or take the boat?

Re: Katrina
Thanks David, my second time there. Forgot to say I saw a Small Copper too. It doesn’t have the range of butterflies Sussex has but has plenty of birds.
Thanks Wurzel it was a bit more orange. I helicoptered.

Small Pearl-bordered Fritillaries
I went to Park Corner Heath yesterday. It was a pleasure to see Dave on my arrival already photographing fritillaries.
PBF and SPBS were nectaring on Bugle. Later Trevor and Gary arrived and with teamwork we saw 2 roosting SPBFs and one roosting PBF.
You might notice a similarity between Trevor's photos and mine! Other butterflies seen included a Brown Argus, multiple Brimstones and a Painted Lady.
The last spot was a large caterpillar which I think may be a Drinker moth

Re: Katrina
Those Fritillaries look familiar, Katrina! Maybe I should have stayed a bit longer to see them roost (and to see Trevor and Gary too!). Lovely photos of the SPBF on the bracken frond.
Good to catch up with you today - it's been a while.
Cheers,
Dave
(PS - the path at the top of Mill Hill was awash with roosting Common Blues, reminding me of your competition-winning Chalkhills!)

Re: Katrina
Good to catch up with you too!
It is that time of year when we are spoilt for choice of butterflies and it is hard to choose where to go.
Thanks for the tip re the Mill Hill common blues,

Re: Katrina
Lovely shots of the SPBF Katrina. I haven't seen them for a few years (lockdown etc) so would really like to catch up with them this season.
Re: Katrina
Yes, lovely SPBF photos Katrina, a species I have never seen.
I typed 'Park Corner Heath' in to Google to see where it was. I think I had better find SPBF that are more local.

Re: Katrina
Helicoptered over - now I'm even more envious
Cracking Small Pearls
- hopefully if they're having a good year over your way they might scrape though over this way in Bentley Wood

Re: Katrina
Our shots from Wednesday are bound to look similar, but yours look ' moodier ' to me.
Your challenge now is to take a better ' Blues ' shot this year, and that will be very difficult!.
Good to have a catch up,
Trevor.

Re: Katrina
Thank you Pauline,
I feel I have missed a lot this season so good to get out and see something.
Thanks Otep , I hope you find some close.
Thank you Wurzel. The views from the helicopter are good and quicker than two boats.
I think everyone is pleased we haven’t lost the SPBFs again.
Trevor not sure about your challenge for me - I seem to have less and less time to get out and about. Perhaps it should be your challenge!

Re: Katrina
Hi! Katrina, lovely shots of the Pearls, I don't think I'll find them in Kent so it's great to see your's Goldie

Re: Katrina
Love those Fritillaries, Katrina, and good that there are places in the south of England where they can be seen.
Re: Katrina
Thank you David. I am glad they are holding on
Re: Katrina
I went to Iping Common this morning. There were small numbers of SSB. I had only seen males but Ben arrived and spotted a mating pair.
Re: Katrina
Beautiful images. The background colour sets them off nicely.
A
for the first two shots. I doubt I'll get to see them this year.
