Hi,
Found this little chap sitting on an aquilegia on Bank Holiday Monday
I didn't disturb it as it was cold and overcast, so only have the closed wings - see image
Might be a skipper sp.?
It wasn't feeding, tho' there plenty of flowers nearby.

Welcome to UK Butterflies!
Your Butterfly is an Orange Tip. Because there is no orange visible through the underside of the wing tip I think it is a female. Your butterfly is not feeding because it is roosting. This means it is resting, butterflies do this overnight and during cold and wet weather. There are photos, and more information, if you look at the link below. Many of us enjoy seeing Orange Tips on the wing as they herald the start of Spring.

Thanks for your welcome, it's good to be aboard - or should that be on the wing!?
After I joined up and made the post, I was leafing through my copy of 'Butterflies of Northern Europe' by Björn Dal, (a very comprehensive slim field guide I got for £1 in a charity shop...) and saw that the mossy green patches looked like it might be an Orange Tip, which wasn't the most obvious candidate, so many thanks for the confirmation.
