Hi all. My 4 year old daughter has just found a catapillar in our house. I'm not sure if it's come in on 1 of the dogs after a walk in the woods, the cat from over the fields or just generally outside and crawled in.
Can someone please help me ID it so I know where best to put it/return it.
Thanks in advance

Hi Boketto,
I'm definitely not an expert, but it does look quite a bit like a nice fat Angle Shades moth caterpillar, which I believe likes to hide under garden leaf litter.
Hopefully one of the moth experts can confirm or put me straight if wrong...which is certainly not out of the question !
Cheers,
PS Love that your daughter is in no way phased by it !

Thank you. It's been in a snail habitat with all kinds of leaves from outside to see if it would eat any of them. It's touched none other than to curl in dry leaves and make a web around it, though we can still see it wiggle through the Web.
I think you're right. It's was just so hard to tell with so many green caterpillars,
I'm back in the woods tomorrow, so I had planned to take it there for fear of it dying here.
Thank you. She is animal mad. We have tried hard to introduce her to as many animals and insects as possible and teach her to respect them. She'd love to keep it and see for sure what it turns into. I'm just too scared it will die as not a caterpillar we've had before.

Hi Boketto ,
Just seen this .I reckon that Zig-Zags right , you say that the larvae is making (or made ) a web amongst some leaves ,i would guess that its ready to pupate ,it does look as though it is fully grown ,id keep it .................and see what occurs ! and then release it when it emerges , i,m sure your daughter would like to see it ! .

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the response. Thankfully just seen this before we were heading to the woods and I have 1 very happy little lady. Even the 15 year old is taking great interest. Thanks again. I just didn't want to cause it any harm.
