Can you help identify thanks
Hi spotted this beautiful
butterfly or moth on Holy Island in Northumberland today, and would like to know what it is , thank you in advance

Hello Maisymouse. You have a six-spot burnet moth there.
The distinction between 'moths' and 'butterflies' is rather artificial. In other countries, the burnets are often included in books on butterflies. In Switzerland, for example, they are treated as 'Tagfalter' or 'papillons de jour' (the German and French for 'butterflies'). It is a very beautiful and interesting group.
