Erebia from Picos de Europa

Post by David M »

This isn't dark enough to be palarica and the ocelli are too small. The only other candidate is meolans:

According to Tolman, palarica flies to 1,650m, but this erebia was seen at 2,000m. Could it be a late triaria or is meolans more likely?

It seems all meolans to me (both of them).

Thanks, Guy. Far fewer of this genus fly in NW Spain than in the Alps, for example, so the list of alternatives was somewhat limited.

Hi David
I'm not as much as an expert as some on these, particularly in relation to regional variation. But my ID would be meolans for the second one and palarica for the first one.

Hope this helps!
