After storms drifting up from France on 31st August followed by brisk S to SW winds, there would seem to be a good chance of significant immigration of for example Painted Ladies and Clouded Yellows. South coast of course most favoured but not ruled out almost anywhere.

Re: Migrant prediction
Your prediction didn't stand a chance of being correct today in North Lanc's Jack, and the forecast I've just viewed doesn't suggest for a moment that it will be correct the rest of the week up here either. In eight hours today I saw a single Wall Brown being blown all over the place poor thing, and to be perfectly honest not a cat in hells chance of seeing anything else.
Can't wait to see the 2008 butterfly report for Lancaster and Distict 2008, I think an A4 sheet will do it!

Re: Migrant prediction
That is precisely why I made the prediction - wind. But not just near the ground.
It is important also to understand factors such as upper winds, storm movements. It is well known that birds get carried aloft in thunderstorms (often chasing insects) and then get "dumped" far away.

You win a prize, Jack...Clouded Yellow at Lulwoth Cove on Monday

Re: Migrant prediction
My brother has just returned home after a week in south Devon, and he saw a clouded yellow on Wednesday and Thursday between Start Point and Prawle.
Also good news on the Small Copper front as there were 'numerous' coppers flying there, really fresh .
