butterfly identify

butterfly identify

hi hope you can help identify this butterfly seen on a water meadow next to the river plym devon. very dark blue both upper and underwings similar. white forewing edge very noticable.

Looks like the Chimney Sweeper ,(odezia atrata ) a moth. Regards Allan.W.

thanks allen . looks like it. a day flying moth always makes life interesting. thanks for your help-i probably need a better moth book, individual looks nothing like the one illustrated,

Your individual is very well marked as Chimney sweepers white markings are generally around the forewing tips ,reaching just past the tip on either side ,if you look on Neil Freemans personal diary ,he posted one on the 4th June. Can,t think what else it could be.
