Identify this butterfly please

Please help me identify this Butterfly, I have joined the forum especially to find out about this.

I spotted this beautiful butterfly in my garden and I have searched the web on British Butterflies and I can see nothing like it.

Could one of your members please help me in identify it and tell me how rare it is or indeed is if it is a butterfly and not a moth.

Hi John and welcome to the site. What you have there is a Moth, a Cinnabar moth. It's a relative of the more well known Tiger Moths and it's caterpillars feed on Ragworts.

Just found out that it is a Cinnabar Moth.
