Website Enhancements

Post by Pete Eeles »

From time to time, the website gets some new features, that I'll mention in this thread. Feel free to request new features too!

First off, the listings of larval food plants (https://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/foodplants.php) and nectar sources (https://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/nectar_sources.php) have been a) updated to align with 'Life Cycles' and use the naming from Stace and b) enhanced with new mechanisms for sorting the lists based on plant name, plant scientific name, and butterfly species.

Secondly, Vince and I have been extracting the sequences of images we have in the various media albums into sub-albums. This not only highlights these sequences, but also makes it easier to find other images in the albums (which no longer contain these sequences). The sequences themselves are also shown next to the album where relevant (e.g. on the species pages) and there is a useful summary of all sequences at https://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/albums_ ... quence.php.

Lastly, we've moved to HTTPS :)

Cheers,

- Pete

I hope everyone is well and staying safe.

More website news that you may not be aware of.

Although the personal photo albums have been removed in order to help with website capacity issues, the Species-Specific Albums https://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/album.php?id=0 are still there. Previously I would contact a member and ask them to add selected images or do it on their behalf, however images can now only be added to these albums by Moderators. Initially I will still contact the photographer to let them know that one of their images has been selected and will continue to do so unless they agree that further requests are unnecessary.

There is now a list of all contributors to the Species-Specific Album https://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/contributors.php . Photographs will now be credited with the full name of the owner (where known) rather than their user name, although their user name will remain unaffected in all other respects. If you click on your name on the list you will be able to view all the images that you have contributed to the albums. Some images are still listed under user names and it would be very helpful if those people could contact either Pete or myself so that the list can be updated. You can do so by Private Message or E-mail pete@ukbutterflies.co.uk or vince@ukbutterflies.co.uk

Many thanks,
Vince

Hello, this is just a tiny niggle and maybe not fixable but when I'm scrolling through the abs. list on a given species, they're is no longer in alphabetical order? Is this fixable?

Thanks

Paul :)

Hi Paul - you have ordering options at the top of the page. We wanted to retain the original listing (Goodson and Read) since that groups related aberrations (e.g. forewing, hindwing, spotting etc.), with the option to order by name as before. The default can be set in the user settings here: https://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/myukb.php

Cheers,

- Pete
