This is the other pyrgus from my recent trip to Montes Universales that has been causing me grief.
This time, I managed to 'pot' the specimen, so I have both uppers and unders (seen at 1,300m in a grassy meadow):
The hw uppers look too well marked for cirsii and the hw uns are quite pale, whereas cirsii's usually are fairly reddish coloured.
Trouble is, when I take into account all the other pyrgus in this region at this time of year, I'm struggling to reconcile this specimen with any of them!!
Second Spanish pyrgus for ID
Re: Second Spanish pyrgus for ID
Was this the one you caught at lunchtime, just before the drive to the airport on the final day David?
Re: Second Spanish pyrgus for ID
No, Paul. This one was spotted on the Saturday after you had all left, during a period when I was first starting to see quite a few Zapater's Ringlets.selbypaul wrote:Was this the one you caught at lunchtime, just before the drive to the airport on the final day David?
Re: Second Spanish pyrgus for ID
Any suggestions for this before I mark it down as a 'UFO'?
Re: Second Spanish pyrgus for ID
Oberthur's would have been my first call, but I am no expert on the pyrgus!
