Help with this

Post by lesbutler »

Hi, Sorry for my first post being an id request, but I just begun macro photography and am logging species found at my local small ecological park, close to the south bank of the Thames in London. So far I have managed to identify the beautiful butterflies I have photographed, except this one. I have only seen the one example. Can you advise. Thanks folks. Les.

Hi Les. This is a moth. Ither Latticed Heath: http://www.ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=66 or Common Heath: http://www.ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=557 the common heath is very variable, but I'd probably say its latticed heath from looking at it.

Yes definitely a Latticed Heath. Easy to confuse with butterfly but it is a day flying moth.

A moth. Ahhh, thanks Dave and Lance, and for the link. My field guide to butterflies and moths doesn't list it at all. Only saw the one example, but lots of six-spot burnet's mating. Cheers, Les.
