Re: July 2008 Competition Entries
Alex, when the competition's over, and we're allowed to talk about the pictures, I'd love to know more about your butterfly! It's intriguing!
Jack, so that's your (second) entry is it? A website devoted to excreta?

Re: July 2008 Competition Entries
Guy, Pete
Gill and I were in a field in Southern Bulgaria near the Greek border on the 2nd July. There were lots of lesser spotted frits flying around and I saw this one perched with wings closed. From the underside it looked like all the other lesser sp. frits then it opened its wings and I saw the same view you have. I just had time for one shot before it disappeared. My personal knowledge/ID skills of most European butterflies is sketchy and I'm perfectly prepared to accept that this may be something else entirely although I've been through Collins several times and can't come up with anything else!
I actually submitted the pic into the competition not because of any ID problems but just because I liked the way the insect stood out against the background!!

Re: July 2008 Competition Entries
Oh well, if my entry last month wasn't good enough to win, I never will. Anyway, here's the entry for this month: Euphydryas iduna from Kilpisjärvi, Finland.

First time I've seen these in the UK - a real delight.

In for a penny...
I'm entering this to read the critique it receives, rather than with any hope of getting votes

Ah! Yes! That's a new mechanism that we'll be using for the August competition on wards.
For the July competition, just include the image in a reply to this topic!

Ok so here is my photo.

Re: July 2008 Competition Entries
Nice photo but unfortunately neither this nor any other entries after August 2nd will go into the voting list. Pete is away on holiday.Markulous wrote:If this is too late, please feel free to delete it

It's a shame. That small copper was a stunner!
