The BC European Butterflies Group (EBG) offers bursaries (of 600 euros) for the study of rare and/or threatened species in Europe. The funding such bursaries is part of the EBG’s remit to promote and support research and surveys.
There have been several such bursaries to date and the general consensus is that they have worked very well. It been suggested that – given the interest in European species on UKB – there may be contributors to UKB that might be interested in taking up such bursaries.
This is the EBG page giving more detail:

Please note that the closing date for submissions for 2019 bursaries is 17 April.

Re: EBG bursaries
If I remember rightly, one of the past recipients is a UKB member. A fabulous opportunity for someone with a bit of time on their hands.

I highly recommend the bursaries - they ask very little of you (just a side of A4 and some enthusiasm) in exchange for the opportunity of a lifetime, and the chance to become part of the hugely knowledgeable and welcoming community that is EBG.
There's a bit about my experience on my blog here if anyone still needs convincing (https://willsbutterflies.blogspot.com/2 ... rsary.html).

Hi William,
So I'm guessing you must be Will L who gave the brilliant talk on the Phengaris species at the EBG AGM in 2017.

Glad you liked it Roger - I had a fantastic day and felt very honoured to speak in such esteemed company - wish I'd known you were there, I'd have introduced myself properly.
Cheers,
