IDs on Satyridae & Lycaenidae

Post by TimmyP »

Hello all,

Thanks admin for accepting me. My dad recently snapped this Mountain Ringlet-esque specimen & possible Idas Blue near Chamonix - any ideas on positive id?

Ta!

I'd favour Silver Studded Blue over Idas to be honest, Timmy, although the specimen is very faded so it's hard to be sure.

The erebia looks very like Lesser Mountain Ringlet.

Cheers David - agreed it's difficult to tell with the Blue.

I agree with David on both. Male idas in this region has much narrower borders.
