I saw this strange Comma (Semi-colon perhaps?) at Fermyn Woods on Saturday June 30th:
Is it a known aberration?

Thanks Guy. Great insect, not so great photo..Padfield wrote:It is ab. suffusa. Well done! A great insect!
Will it's descendents inherit the altered markings? Or is it caused by environmental conditions? There has been a heat-wave in the UK for the last 10 days or so,
Cheers

Hi John. I believe this aberration is environmental in origin but am not sure and hesitated to reply in case someone else knew better. At the very least, this present reply will keep the thread alive and perhaps prompt another to correct me.

My instinct agrees with Guy, it looks similar to the Small Tort abs. which are caused by extreme temps.Padfield wrote:Hi John.
