Does anybody know what this caterpillar is? It was found on a piece of grass amongst wild thyme on North Gower coast during the summer and adopted this position when I took pictures.
Thanks a lot,
Sylvie
Caterpillar ID / Gower
Re: Caterpillar ID / Gower
Hi Sylvie,
A wild guess but it could be a Bordered Straw moth larva. See superb gallery at http://www.wildlifeinsight.com/british- ... galleries/ . A photo which looks a bit like yours is near the bottom under 'Noctuid caterpillars with fewer prolegs – Plusinae'.

A Geomatrid surely? Possibly Scopula sp.

Re: Caterpillar ID / Gower
Thank you Peter and Bugboy. I think you are right Bugboy, it is one of the Scopula sp. difficult to know which one though. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Kind regards,
Sylvie
