Neil Hulme
Just spotted that Neil has been awarded the British Empire Medal for his efforts with the Duke of Burgundy in Sussex - thoroughly deserved http://butterfly-conservation.org/48-16 ... nours.html
The wonder of the world, the beauty and the power, the shapes of things, their colours lights and shades, these I saw. Look ye also while life lasts.
Re: Neil Hulme
Yes it's also on the BBC news:

I can't think of a more deserving recipient! Well done Neil.
Cheers

Brilliant news Neil - I'm SO chuffed for you. Your enthusiasm is surpassed only by your modesty and I can't think of two better qualities in a human being (apart from maybe the uncontrollable urge to send money to me).
Top Man.

Mmm ... That would set a dangerous precedent. Then I guess Matthew Oates would have to be crowned Emperor ...Vince Massimo wrote:And about time too!, but surely you should have been made a Duke?Vince
Congratulations Neil. It is only what you deserve, but it is good that your amazing work has been recognised.

All hail the Mighty Hulme!
Well done, old chap, should have happened years ago.

Re: Neil Hulme
What an accolade for you, your willing co-workers (mostly volunteers) and for butterfly conservation in general.
First Martin Warren, now Neil Hulme. Hopefully this kind of recognition will help to further publicise the plight of butterflies in the UK.
Well done and well earned, Neil. Many congratulations.

Hi Mark, John, Katrina, Peter, Vince, Pete, Paul, Trev, Dave, Guy, Susie, David, and all those who have contacted me directly.
Thank you so much for all your kind messages. If I didn't have such a roaring suntan I'd be blushing. I'm particularly pleased for those close to me who have to suffer my butterfly-related absenteeism on such a regular basis. And anything which mentions "butterflies" and "conservation" in the media has got to be good news.
Many thanks, again.
BWs, Neil

Re: Neil Hulme
Only just found out. Thoroughly deserved Neil.
(unlike bankers, civil servants, etc who seem to get BEM's as part of the package).
I'm not sure I have even before known a BEM holder.
Someone tell me the protocol when I next meet Neil. I know I won't have to call him "Sir" but am I expected to bow?

Re: Neil Hulme
And belated congratulations and best wishes from me, too. My excuse; I`ve been away and have only just found out. As Neil says, anything which brings "butterflies " and "conservation" to the forefront deserves an award but it couldn`t have been given to a more deserving person for all the hard work you have done.

Jenks

I'd like to add my congratulations on this award. Maybe there's a glimmer of hope in the "establishment" after all.
