Marsh Fritillary at Hazelbury Common. Probably a bit thirsty.

Looks like thr fritillaries are out and about. Hope there are some Marsh and Glanville Fritillaries still about when I get to Hampshire/Dorset for the bank holiday weekend!

Here's my attempt. It's Nemo the butterfly born with one fin (or wing in this case!) smaller than the other. Didn't effect it's flight what so ever amazingly!

Great pair of Green Hairstreaks BTW paul. Amazing. I have never seen a pair before. Seeing one is hard enough!

This photo (replacing my spoof of 2000 Purple Hairstreak larvae) was taken at Salden, Bucks on 31 May (Canon S3 in super-macro mode) and shows the curved ends of the antennae that are so important in courtship

Hm... the background is a little destractiong and does draw the eye away from the subject. Perhaps a shallower depth of field would have worked better with this shot. Dare I sey even re-composing a little closer may also improve it?

I have finally managed to catch up with some Butterflies this month so i thought i would enter with a pic of a Butterfly rather than a moth.

I'm going to try and be clever here (which is never a good idea!) and make 'a silk purse from a sow's ear'. Despite getting some nice PBFs and Dukes this month, here's the lowly and much-maligned Small Heath. Mating pair at Harting Down.

Amanda’s Blue (polyommatus amandus). Photo taken 20 May 2008. This is quite large, about the size of a Large Blue. The male upperside has a bright grey-blue colour, often (usually) with dark marginal bands on the forewing. This male is roosting for the night on its larval foodplant Tufted Vetch (vicia cracca). If you look closely, its feet are on the flowers and not on the stem or leaves. I’m not sure I could get to sleep in the same position.
