Help with ID please - possibly a moth

I would be grateful for any help identifying this small butterfly or moth which I photographed in West Oxfordshire last Friday. I thought it was a clearwing moth, but could not find a match in my reference books.

Hi David. You have there a scorpion fly. A glance at the tail tells you how it gets its name!
