Re: May 2008 competition entries
Edit: I had to change my entry for this green hairstreak. Denise and I spent a gloriously sunny day today (6th May) searching three sites for three species of which this was one. No luck on the other two but it was still a good day.
Stuff used was Sony A700 with 70-210 F4 "beercan" with attached Canon 500D close up lens. 1/160 f8 iso200

- The courtship was quite short before they settled together.

Re: May 2008 competition entries
Not only my first entry this year, but also my first butterfly photograph this year!
I may well replace it by the end of the month, but at least my toe is on the water!

Canon EOS 30D, Sigma 180 Macro, Tripod, 1/320, f8, ISO 400, just a small crop/rotate in Photoshop elements

Got fed up with the Orange-tip I'd posted, so changed it for this PBF

150mm 1/160s @ f/4.0, with flash on tripod
Kind Regards,
Chris

Re: May 2008 competition entries
OK. I've settled on this image as my final effort... A slightly better shot of Wood White courtship behaviour posted previously:
A male Wood White introducing himself to a female... I'd never seen the tongue-lashing courtship of this species before and managed to get a shot of it actually happening (and during the split second the male flicked his wings open
). Maybe not the sharpest photo in the box, but I was very pleased with the action shot.

Re: May 2008 competition entries
A late change for me. On 31st May I finally saw the Marsh Fritillary at Seven Barrows in West Berkshire. Was lucky enough to get a shot of a pair courting too. All despite 8/8 thin altostratus too. The low light levels and that they were moving around and flapping a lot made this image even luckier.

Re: May 2008 competition entries
My first entry in the monthly comps - first time shooting in raw too! 6th May near Wrexham, if the male is the small one I think he's punching above his weight a bit!
