The report of possible Purple Hairstreak courtship behaviour in the Issue 4 of Notes and Views from an Italian source http://www.naturamediterraneo.com/forum ... _ID=238400
(via Michael Skelton) viewtopic.php?t=8464&start=0#p102153 has prompted some interesting additional observations.
The first from Jamie Burston suggests that it is actually aggressive behaviour viewtopic.php?t=8319&start=20#p104844
while Neil Freeman reminds us that he documented similar (aggressive) behaviour in a series of photos posted in his personal diary in 2014 viewtopic.php?f=29&t=5424&start=1100#p89071
