Well done David - that was an absolutely cracking shot. I mean - a photographer, an artist, and a Purple Emperor - all in the same shot. You couldn't have staged that, could you? Absolutely brilliant!
Cheers,

Congratulations David. Your photo fitted the theme very well. I voted for eccles on this occasion, a bit of finger for the people side, but what an excellent shot of the frit. I also really liked Mike Young's and FISHiEE's but I only have one vote. Well done to all that took part.

Yeeaaaayyy!! Well done Dave. As soon as I saw the title of the March comp, I knew you had the winning photo... even before you submitted it. An excellent evocative shot showing the pulling power with which "His Majesty" is endowed. Maybe this year will get to see him myself!
I think Eccle's shot was technically brilliant. The antenna, eye and hairs on the abdomen were all pin sharp.
As for third place - well, it wasn't even a butterfly.... The photographer should be banned from this site... wait a minute - it was me
What a lovely photo

Well done Dave and Trev, and all that entered,
I voted for Eccles this time, lovely sharp close up, taken with a compact.
Nice to see Pete finally getting a vote

Congrats all, and it's Davids turn for bragging rights!
Mike - are you going to write up a list of themes ready for the out of season comps, so we can be prepared

Well done Dave, a great shot that perfectly matched the topic. Thanks for those that voted for my marsh frit. I've sold on the little Canon S3 as I haven't used it since getting the DSLR. I'm wondering now if I've made a mistake!
Seems I was the only voter for Guy Padfield's shot of the lesser purple emperor, but I was impressed by the very nice picture of a lovely insect that I'd never seen before.

Re: March 2008 votes
Thanks to everybody for the kind comments. It's quite an honour to win one of these competitions because the standard is always so high.
I've still only seen one butterfly this year up here in the frozen north, so my chances in the April contest are looking slim!

Well done David, you got my vote.
Oop here in the North, it should brighten this week so come the weekend, you may be able to get something. I had to go to Sicily to get my pic this month! I wish I'd taken the bleeding tripod!

Well done, David, you had my vote. I remember the day well - plenty of emperors, white ads and lots of other goodies too!!.
Hope to see you at Fermyn again this year.
Alex.
