Re: August 2013
A week or so ago my buddleja bush was heaving with peacock butterflies as well as large and small/green-veined whites... Today, small tortioseshells have replaced most of the peacocks, along with one red admiral and my first painted lady of the year. Trev Pretty much the same scenario here in Shrop...

Re: August 2013
I seem unable to find common blues in Shropshire if anybody knows where they are hiding, as I am keen to photograph the female. Last Monday it tipped it down with rain here and I took the opportunity as I was not at work, to have my first go at watercolour painting (I have never drawn or painted ev...

Thank you very much Pete and Vince...
Another step forward to my learning. When it is quieter I will post a list and some pics of my Greek experiences but, one for the winter .....when we need a little sunshine on darker nights.

Small Copper?
In May I once again went to the island of Skiathos. Interestingly just like the UK many of the plants were up to two weeks later than normal which, gave me some new butterflies to add to my growing list, the Long Tailed Blue being one of them :) On a meadow of wild flowers I came across several smal...

Re: August 2013
This last week in my little bit of Shropshire and I visited Dudmaston Woods on a day when a storm was about to hit. It was scarily quiet with even the absence of Dragonflies which are normally plentiful. However, I saw three White Admiral (apologies because these were technically seen in July ). I g...
Re: July 2013
Large Whites have also been laying eggs on the Nasturtiums.........It is lovely to be seeing such numbers :) You won't be loving them quite so much when the caterpillars ruin your Nasturtiums. Jack (where Nasturtiums thrive on the Large White free Isle of Mull) I plant the Nasturtiums for the...
Re: July 2013
This last week has seen lots of activity. Up on the Hermitage (Bridgnorth) I have had two separate sightings of Marbled White which is unusual for Shropshire. A single Hairstreak when I hadn't go my camera! Totally unfamiliar to me it was dark (too dark for Purple) with orange & white markings. ...

Last weekend we went just across the border to Pound Wood in the Wyre forest where we saw Speckled Wood 4 SPB Fritillary all flying very fast (but counted 5 that I could see at any one time) Small Skipper 1 Wood White 6 Brimstone 2 Numerous Ringlets Here on my local patch, which is a West facing mea...
Re: May 2013

Re: April Sightings
Monday in Shropshire and I saw one Red Admiral, two Peacocks, Two Small Tortoiseshells and one white butterfly in flight. Sadly my white sighting was in such atrocious wind that it was flying over the garden very fast so, difficult to ID. But, it wasn't a Brimstone, either a Small White or Green Vei...

Thanks Guy, I tend to forget that they have more blue on the body than our UK version.
