Re: Butterflyboy
Hello there, on Saturday I was able to go to the area around Arnside. Its a slight disadvantage writing this at 6AM on Wednesday instead of Sunday like I planned, as my memory isn't as fresh. We set of at about 10AM and got to Warton Crag for around noon. After eating our lunch and talking to Dave w...

Saw a holly blue but my camera couldn't focus on it so i couldn't get a shot, and the speckled woods were very annoying :x So I saw my first small coppers of the year https://elliotttcphotography....

Re: Butterflyboy
So i found a small tortoises shell in the cellar about 20 minutes ago hibernating but we woke it up and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on where to put it or to release it into the wild? Currently it's on the roof but I don't think it can stay there for a few months without being dis...

First of all your dad scores top marks for 'Dadding' 8) You did well to get them on the second attempt. Great job with the Emperor 8) It can be frustrating when people put up butterflies, sometimes you can get lucky and they show an interest and so you can get a load of shots but then oth...

Re: Butterflyboy
so yesterday I was playing tennis when my dad came rushing to me saying he'd seen 3+ white letter hairstreaks on some thistles so I chased after him to find none. Later that day I went to get some eggs, I saw a family of yellows hammers and some white throats and possibly a lesser white throat, but ...

Re: Wood White (Oaken Wood, Surrey)
Yes, I'd say that they are wood wight because the other whites (large, small) have more of a creamy colour under wing and they have usually 1-2 black spots (depending weather they are male or female)
So I'd say that these are wood whites.
So I'd say that these are wood whites.

Re: Brown Hairstreak in urban garden
I thought brown hairstreaks would have a higher success rate than 3% but did more hatch out of eggs but just fail to pupate?

never seen a northern brown, or I might have but it had no white on it, I think I've only seen common blues and brown argus though.
