Re: Blue butterfly
Thanks Dave. Not like either of those at all, as far as I was able to see. Very white underside without additional markings. But if that's the only blue we'd see here, I guess it's not possible that it's something else.

Re: Blue butterfly
Thanks Dave. Is the Common Blue white on the underside of the wing? This appeared to be pretty much plain white underneath.

Blue butterfly
Our weekend walking (Perthshire) brought us another new one. I've never seen a blue butterfly in the UK before (though I know they exist, of course), but we spotted this one. It was very difficult to get a photo of it at all, and the one I got shows it just as it had fluttered up into the air. It's ...

Re: My mystery butterfly - can anyone help with identification?
Thanks Neil, mystery solved! Perhaps it's the Albicans flavour - the Wikipedia entry says "ab. albicans Ob. has the ground-colour whitish."

Re: What we've seen recently

Our other sighting has kindly been identified in the Identification forum, and turns out to be a Yellow Speckled Moth, albeit white, not yellow. ...

What we've seen recently
Seen these recently, in Perthshire. All never seen by me before! An Elephand Hawk Moth, a Green Tiger Beetle (I know it's not a butterfly or a moth, but it's pretty!), a Spotted wood (I think?), a Small Pearl Bordered Fritillary (is it?), and lots of Small Heath butterfiles. They are hard to get a ph...

My mystery butterfly - can anyone help with identification?
During the lockdown, my wife and I have been taking our exercise by walking in the hills and woods behind our house in rural Perthshire. We've come across lots of new wildlife, not just butterflies, though the ones we've spotted (photos in a separate post) have all been fairly easy to identify. Exce...
