Re: Polyommatus celina/icarus
Hi Guy,many thanks for your prompt response regarding f. celina . I,m sure it is under recorded in this area as I believe marshalli is also. I saw them many times over three consecutive Septembers in Alvor, some coloured as my photos and some darker as shown by Lee, always with the marginal dots. The...

Re: Polyommatus celina/icarus
Taken on the semi-nature reserve at Quinta da Rocha in Alvor,Portugal on the 1st September 2008 I have thought this to be f.celina from the description in Collins Butterfly Guide. The background colour of the males have a violet hue with black marginal dots on the hindwing, sometimes extending to the...

Re: 2008 Photographic Workshop
A truly magnificent day where we were all treated to a photographic master class. All concerned are to be congratulated and thanked for providing us with such proffesionalism regarding the art of photography. It wasn't the weather that depressed me,more the thought of the "good" photograph...

Angle Shades
Would agree with Angle Shades Pete as they are the first sign of butterfly or moth I see in my garden every year. Usually they munch into the early growning buds of Clematis but I can find then on Mint,Buddlia as well, they are definitely not fussy eaters. Heres a couple of shots of mine. The second ...

Red Admiral
Whilst driving through Brookwood in Surrey at 14-10 on Tuesday I saw a Red Admiral flying around a set of traffic lights much like a moth would do.
The clouds had rolled in, it was getting darker so I suppose it was either attracted to the light or maybe the warmth.

Brown Hairstreak
Thats as maybe Mike, but the hour or more that female Brown Hairstreak gave us the runaround was certainly my butterfly highlight of the year, and we never really lost sight of her,did we, until she vanished up high into those beech trees.
