Hi all,
Are there any full shade plants to attract butterflies. I have border of about 4m x 1m which is up against the back of my bungalow. It's north facing so the sun never gets to it. There's nothing in the border at the moment but it seems a shame to waste it.
Cheers

Thanks for that, have had a look at that page. Didn't realise there were so many, definitely looks like one of the Miridius quadrivirgatus type.

Anyone know about stick insects?
I'm fairly sure there aren't any natural residents in the UK but saw these on Marram grass heads on holiday. Are they likely to survive the winter?

Is this a pale Common Blue female?
Saw this today on Great Yarmouth North Beach, was mainly on the Sea Holly but landed here in the grass and flexed it's wings so I could get a shot. It looks a lot paler than the drawings in my pocket guide, still yet to get the big book

Sorry it's a bit of a late reply but the Norfolk Wildlife Trust at Hickling Broad has regular Swallowtails.

Re: Is this a Grayling of some kind
Many thanks to you both, I'm going to order the Pocket Guide and see how I get on. I'll probably end up ordering the other book as well as the reviews look good on Amazon.
The book I currently have is for Britain and Europe and quite confusing sometimes.

Is this a Grayling of some kind
Hi all, Just joined and have a butterfly that I can't identify. The nearest I can get in my book is the Common Grayling, but would like to be sure, quite a few of these about in the dunes on Norfolk coast (Waxham to be precise). First one has a bit of a dark background, but second is a bit better. T...
